The more familiar we get with our personal style, the less we’ll be inclined to get lost in the brain zone that leaves us powerless over purchases we end up regretting. I’m not suggesting NEVER giving in to spontaneity, but before going over the edge at least make sure there’s a good return policy. In my personal experience, I’ve gotten in more trouble over shoes than anything else.
Ankle boots are at the top of my Fall Wish List. They have a versatility I’ve grown to appreciate because of the black patent leather ones I’ve worn several times a week for the past 3 falls and winters. The cost per wear is pennies by now. It’s time for some new ones.
Here’s what looks good now by color, heel height, and by price point.
1. Miz Mooz $137, Foster Ankle Boot. 2. Rachel Comey $341, Sir Barton Bootie. 3. Donald J. Pliner $285, Monica Booties. 4. Earthies $159, Halley Booties. 5. Elizabeth & James $295, Shane Booties. 6. Rag & Bone $495, Lovell Booties.1. Born $130, Tie Ramsey. 2. Stella McCartney $385, Preston Ankle Boots. 3. Stuart Weitzman $450, Xplain Bootie. 4. Teal Wedge $110, Aldo. 5. DVF $150, Military Tie-Up (Editor’s Pick!) 6. Jeanette Booties $480, Opening Ceremony.
The NEW shoe guide lines:
- Shoes should NEVER match the bag if you’re a day over 30. It’ll age you at least 10 years.
- Shoes and clothing that match should be limited to bridal occasions and not much else. In other words, if you’re wearing a red dress don’t wear red shoes. The most modern way to do it is to wear either a contrasting or a neutral color.
- Do NOT be afraid of colored shoes!
Grab One New Spring Thing
|It’s been a long, cold recession and a long cold winter. We’re ready for a treat. Our criteria was a trend friendly spring fashion update for under $200!|
The Denim Jacket
It never really left us. But it’s BACK (in a big way) for spring. It’s hard to improve on perfection. But the denim jacket is the ‘must have’ item now and it’s gotten some refreshing updates, like this ¾ sleeve from J. Jill. ($89) NOTE: In general, avoid denim head to toe. Who needs to look like a rodeo queen, unless you are one? A denim jacket is one item you don’t need to spend a lot of money on, and it mixes with all those enormously expensive (or not) items you already own or (wish you did).
|Otrera Scarf $198|
Big Bling Rings 5 inch platforms stilettos: Yikes. Booty baring skirts: Nope. Chain mail dresses: you must be kidding? BIG BLING RINGS: Now that’s something we can grab hold of. Think of them as little conversation pieces, and go for the biggest most eye catching one you can find.
Citrus With Everything
Lemons and oranges are juicing up spring in almost every category. Squeeze some into your wardrobe. When you’re wearing these colors, it’s hard to feel anything but upbeat. Audra’a Garden Ring: $25.
|J. Crew Cardigan $89.50||Kate Spade Shoes $198|
Throw in a Wedge
Wedge heels are the perfect antidote to towering stilettos and sky high platforms. But there’s a trick to the wedge: the narrower the bottom of the heel area, the less stable the shoe.
|Kork-Ease Lilana Wedge $159||Kenneth Jay Lane $115|
|Onyz Dome Ring $50||GB Wedge $79|
Spring Utility Report
It’s OK to look like a Girl Scout, if you’re a Girl Scout.
If you’re a Marine, a firefighter, or a teenage runway model, there’s nothing more stunning than a ‘full dress uniform’.
