If we’re going to smell like something it might as well be something beautiful! But the legendary tastemaker Diana Vreeland once cautioned, “If you’re close enough to smell my perfume, you’re too close.”
Nothing ruins the moment like a lungful of foo-foo from across the room. Perfume is as personal as lingerie. It should be used judiciously.
Back in the 90s I worked with a woman whose perfume was so pervasive it entered the room seconds before she did and lingered for hours afterward. The smell was so heavy; a lit match might have caused the room to explode. She was beautiful. But she created allergic reactions wherever she went.
The most beautiful perfumes are the ones we glimpse not the ones that take our breath away.
