Not all artists are born. Most are made. There was only one Picasso and there is only one you. You are your medium for creating a masterpiece. In Everyday Creativity, (Psychology Today, December, 2009), Carlin Flora writes, “Buying into a limited definition of creativity prevents people from appreciating their creative potential. Mention creativity and people immediately think of the arts, but even mundane chores can be addressed in a creative manner.” Lack of imagination in adults has now been linked to decline in memory function. People with creative pursuits have actually been shown to be more flexible, less judgmental, and better able to cope with stress, illness, and aging. The question shouldn’t be “How creative are you?” but “How are you creative?” Anything that requires creative activity, makes us more observant, dynamic, and connected to the world.
