Everyone living thing (that’s us!) has an aura of light. The light is composed of all the colors in the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
Those same seven colors are the very ones assigned to the seven chakras. Chakras are energy centers in the body; they are like interrelated spirals. They start at the base of the spine and go up to the crown of the head each one spiraling into the ones above. Healthy energy flows in happy swirls that make us feel like a million bucks, stuck energy is what makes us feel blah and depressed.
It is believed that if there is trouble in one chakra, the energy can’t flow freely in the others. Those who work with energy use colors and gemstones to encourage the body (the person) to release stuck energy. This is a brief recap of the chakras and their related colors and body parts.
Red is the color of the 1st chakra, the root chakra. The root chakra is located at the base of the spine and includes the adrenal glands, kidneys, colon, spinal column, legs, and bones. This is the chakra of money, birth issues, survival patterns, grounding, and issues related to food and health. People who are attracted to red are motivated, enthusiastic emotional, and stimulating. Focusing on red or even thinking about red can give you energy when feeling tired.
Orange is the color of the 2nd chakra, The Sacral Chakra, which includes the prostate gland, spleen, ovaries, womb, genitals, testicles, and bladder. This chakra is located just below the navel and it oversees sexuality, relationships, creativity and feelings of pleasure. People who are attracted to orange are sensitive, considerate, positive, persuasive, and tactful. They are good at making others feel at ease. Orange brings peace.
Yellow is the color of the 3rd chakra, the personal power chakra. This chakra is located just above the navel and includes the adrenal glands, stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, nerves, muscles, nervous system. Personal power gets us everywhere or nowhere, depending on how much we have and how we use it. Yellow lovers are sociable, creative, imaginative, outgoing, positive and empathic. They bounce back quickly after setbacks. Yellow stimulates the mind.
Green is the color of the 4th chakra, the Heart Chakra. This chakra is located at the center of the chest and includes the thymus gland, heart, lungs arms, hands, and circulatory system. Wear Green to help open this chakra if you want to be more compassionate, forgiving and self-accepting. Green lovers are hardworking, practical, down to earth, determined and conscientious. They are good at achieving goals. Green is soothing and healing.
Blue is associated with the 5th chakra, the throat chakra. This chakra is located at the hollow of the throat and includes the thyroid gland, hypothalamus, parathyroid, throat, mouth. Opening this chakra will help alleviate stress, encourage you to speak your truth and to help you to be heard. Blue people are versatile, enthusiastic and see opportunities everywhere. They embrace change and can motivate and inspire others.
Indigo is associated with the 6th Chakra, the Third Eye chakra. This is a chakra of intuition and guides what we “see” with our third eye. It is located between the eyes and includes the pituitary gland, nose, ears, left eye, and third eye. This is the chakra to open if you’d like to use your intuition to make better decisions. Indigo lovers are sympathetic, generous, kind and loving. They are reliable, idealistic and tolerant and usually embrace both the spiritual and the physical.
Violet is the color associated with the 7th chakra, the Crown Chakra. This chakra is located at the top of the head and includes the central nervous system, pineal gland, cerebral cortex, right eye. Wear violet if you’d like to experience more clarity and a stronger connection to your inner consciousness. Violet lovers are Intuitive, sensitive and discriminating. They are seekers of truth and understanding. Violet calms the nerves and promotes the spirit.
Jewels and juicy stories go together like champagne & truffles, rubies & pearls, and Kim & Kanye. A good story is always enhanced by excess. And where better to get a little out-on-a-limb or over-the-top than with your jewels. A statement necklace is not likely to get you panned by TMZ and it will make you sparkle like a diva who owns the world.
The Bad Thing about Good Taste is that it usually doesn’t make for good stories unless it’s a scandal involving a celebrity with good taste and bad judgment. Now we’re talking! There’s nothing I like better than a little juicy gossip, especially when it involves jewels and excess. Two of my favorite juicy jewelry divas known for their personal style & perpetual scandal.
Good Taste & Bad Judgment:
The fact that it’s now vintage, does not diminish the Wallis & Edward story in its notoriety. There is not much that’s more compelling than a king abdicating his throne for a gay divorcee (the term for her at the time). The couple became known for their impeccable taste and their empty lives. Her jewelry collection was awe inspiring and the two spent much time designing and commissioning her baubles, many of which have the provenance of prized Picassos today.
Bad Taste and Bad Judgment:
Though we’ll never know how far apart the truth is from the tabloids, we love that she leaves so little to our imagination. Ms. Kadashian seems to have a serious jewelry obsession. She can afford the REAL thing but that’s because of her enormous popularity with an audience who cannot. To grab a pace of what makes her SOOO rich, check out her jewelry collection at Sears. com.
